HRF believes an orphan’s struggles are emblematic of Afghan society. After years of violent conflict and instability, survival outweighed the need for education. This void left many of Afghanistan’s children vulnerable, and impeded the progress the country so desperately needed.
And it must therefore start with this generation of Afghans, who have known only war, displacement and dislocation. Only through educating the young and protecting their malleable minds can we cultivate peaceful values, attitudes and worldviews in order to transcend the violent and destructive wars of the past; and it is the orphans of Afghanistan who have suffered most, lost the most and remain the most vulnerable people in the country. The entire social structure of their world has been ripped apart. By offering them a stable, warm, loving, nurturing environment we hope to capture their innate potential and enable them to one day contribute to rebuilding their country.
